BioEcho has been founded by a team of experts in the field of genomic sample preparation, molecular diagnostics and biotechnology process development. Furthermore, the team has in-depth expertise in the automation of laboratory processes. BioEcho strives to improve current molecular diagnostics methodologies by speeding up and drastically simplifying procedures and by development of sustainable consumables and laboratory processes.

The founders and most of the team members have aquired their skills in general management, product development and sales & marketing during their time with Qiagen, a pioneer in the standardization of nucleic acid purification and an important player in molecular diagnostics.
Dr. Markus Müller
Markus Müller, Ph.D., is co-founder and Managing Director of BioEcho Life Sciences GmbH and is responsible for Research & Development as well as Operations.
Markus has 22 years of experience in various Pharma, Diagnostic and Biotech companies. He started his career at Bayer AG and acquired expert skills in process development for the purification of biomolecules.
Markus then held various leadership positions in R&D at Qiagen GmbH where he lead the business units “GMP Contract Manufacturing & Process Development” and “Sample Preparation Technologies” which developed the commercial sample preparation kits for Qiagen.
Markus also spent two years in Manchester (UK) where he integrated Qiagen’s acquired companion diagnostics development activities of former DXs into corporate headquarters. After leaving Qiagen GmbH, he was assigned as Managing Director of UGA Biopharma (Berlin). In 2016, he was part of the team that founded BioEcho Life Sciences GmbH following a phase of proof-of-concept and technology development in a private setting.
Dr. Frank Schäfer
Frank Schäfer, PhD, is co-founder and Managing Director of BioEcho Life Sciences where he is responsible for Business Development and Sales & Marketing.
Frank has 21 years of experience with Start-up to mid-size Biotech companies where he held R&D and General Management positions. In particular, he is founder of three Biotechnology companies and has profound hands-on knowledge in the strategic development, fund-raising and financial aspects, and the practical set-up of start-up endeavours.
Frank is also founder and shareholder of Cube Biotech, a provider for (membrane) protein services and consumables founded in 2012. Previously, Dr. Schäfer spent 16 years in various positions within the R&D department at Qiagen, Germany, where he headed the “Protein Sciences” and “DNA Applications” business units. Responsibilites included protein production, genomics & NGS sample preparation and cancer assay development.
He also spent 3 years with Caris Life Sciences (Phoenix, AZ, USA) where he led the Liquid Biopsy-based cancer diagnostics assay development and Caris' European operations. Dr. Schäfer is also the founder and Managing Director at FS Life Science Investment - a strategic and R&D consulting firm in Germany since July 2012.
